St Albans Gang Show
2020 LX plan
Working on Gang Show involves me to be on top of all areas of the lighting department, ensuring the correct fixtures, cable and accessories are ordered, contacting the venue to make sure I have the correct and most up to date base lighting plan, but also to inform them of the changes we will be making throughout so that they are aware of those. And then running the fit up to ensure that what is being done matches the plans and being able to fault find where necessary. Being able to control all of this information during the fit up means that I am very much in the technical landscape of the show and working with the other departments to get all the different levels of show communication working.
However once the technical aspects of the show are complete and everything is working to be able to flick the switch towards the creative side of the show is incredibly important. To be able to work ahead whilst the stage is empty of young people and get the initial ideas for the show into the desk are incredibly important. Time onstage with the young people involved is always precious therefore having the base levels of each item and song within the desk allows me to look at what I have during rehearsals and using video camera footage progress during the other times. This period is always important for me however it is as important looking at recordings and talking to the production team to understand the elements of the show that they did like but then also the elements that they didn't like so that I am to create the best designs around their expectations
